Part of what it means to mature as a child of God is to surrender all of you to all of Him. Its dethroning yourself and enthroning Jesus Christ. It’s complete divestiture of all self-interest. It’s giving God veto power. And one way He helps us do this is to say, “Wait”. That miserable, uncomfortable, sometimes painful state of delay is one of God’s most powerful tools to grow us up in Him.

This is the beauty of Christianity. We are not bound to worship in exactly the same way, following the exact same methods and rules. Because of the Freedom we have in Christ our faith can express itself in many different ways. What this means is that worship in each of lives will look a bit different. While at the same time the core of our worship remains the same.

Are you confident in your position as a child of God as you manoeuvre your way through life? As you dwell in His presence my prayer is that you will be confident in your standing, and that no matter what is going on around you, that you will walk by faith and not just by sight, and that like David, you too will be able to boldly proclaim on a daily basis, “surely goodness and the unfailing love of the Lord will pursue me every second of every day, and I will trust in the abiding presence of God.”

Jesus’ presence in our times of broken heartedness and crushed spirits is like a healing balm that soothes the pain. A balm is a sweet-smelling oil used to make creams that heal wounds and reduce pain. Jesus is that balm to us in these moments. We know that trials produce in us character and perseverance but that knowledge doesn’t change the fact that sometimes it hurts so much. That is why we need the healing balm of His presence.
