As we let the sun set on a difficult 2020 and start to experience the dawn of this brand new year, please allow me a moment to send you some good wishes….
Instead of the usual ‘Happy New Year!’ may I rather wish you a… “HAPPY NEW DAY!” instead?
Indeed, I want to wish you at least 365 brand new, happy new days… or more for that matter?

There was one major lesson I learned from 2020 and that was to take the year in bite size pieces. Nothing was certain for any of us. We all experienced daily changes in everything. Rules changed, incomes changed, interactions changed, lifestyle changed, moods changed. The list of changes grew bigger and bigger. The only thing that remained certain about 2020 was change itself. How did we cope? I venture to say, “One day at a time!”
During the hard lockdown over the winter months of 2020, I resorted to climbing on our roof every morning. Some folk were alarmed at my exploits, but my deep desire was to see the sunrise every morning; to experience God in a different way and to find inspiration in the small things around me.
I can honestly say that every sunrise was different. It wasn’t just the clouds or the sky, or the light or the breeze, but the moment it filtered into the birds, the wildlife, the colours of the changing seasons. I felt that God was pressing me to open my eyes and to adopt a new mantle of gratitude. I was so blessed during those particular sunrises. The blessing extended because I was also able to share them with my friends via live stream. Indeed, I created new cyber-friends who started to follow the regular sunrises. Our God never disappointed – he carried me through the year, one day at a time.
So as we approach this new, uncertain year, I’d like to encourage you to take life one moment at a time. Let’s be mindful of who our God is, let’s spend time meditating on His word, let’s fall in love with Him all over again and let’s reach for our special talents to inspire others. We don’t have to do it all at once – just one day at a time.
Because of the Lord ’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
(Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV)
