The Prodigal Father

 

One of the most well-known of Jesus parables is the ‘Parable of the Prodigal Son’. And yet the word prodigal is defined as “having or giving something on a lavish scale, in a recklessly extravagant way. In light of that this parable should actually be known as the ‘Parable of the Prodigal Father’, because the most startling act of extravagant and unrestrained love is exhibited in the way in which the Father responds to his two sons when he realizes that both of them were estranged from his Father-heart.

Have you ever been in the “groan zone” – it’s where you sigh more than you speak; when your inner agony is so deep that you’re literally at a loss for words, you can’t even express what you’re actually feeling; when you cry and ask “Why?”; when you’re so confused that you just don’t know which way to turn; when you’re tempted to give up praying all together.
