As we enter the Christmas season this year and wrap up the blog for 2020, we have decided to run a series of posts based on the theme: “What Christmas Means to Me”

The story of Christ’s birth is a well-known and beloved one. A story that continues to have deep meaning for us and is treasured to this day. Although the Christmas story will always be the same, the experience and significance of Christmas is unique to each one of us. It is also one that changes as we go through different seasons of our lives.

Up until the final blog post on 18 December our contributors will be sharing what Christmas means to them personally. We pray that as they do so you will be reminded of the wonder and beauty of Christmas and perhaps gain new perspectives and insights regarding this season of good tidings and great joy.

I’d like to now leave you with the lyrics to a song written by Carole and Doreen, both long standing members of New Harvest, which inspired this theme…

 What Christmas Means to Me

As I sit here reminiscing of the Christmas’s I’ve known
As I think of friends and loved ones – some of them already home
I remember all the laughter, every seasonal good wish
And I want to sing my Christmas song which goes like this

Thank You Father God in Heaven
For the Gift that You have given
It came wrapped in straw on a stable floor
But it’s worth more than gold to me
Christmas means the old, old story
When the angels sang of glory
And a baby in a manger
That’s what Christmas means to me

For there was an evening long ago when angels came to earth
Sang to shepherds of the glory that was that night given birth
And there was a star that shone so bright it guided three wise men
Bringing gifts of gold and frankincense to Bethlehem

Thank You Father God in Heaven
For the Gift that You have given
It came wrapped in straw on a stable floor
But it’s worth more than gold to me
Christmas means the old, old story
When the angels sang of glory
And a baby in a manger
That’s what Christmas means to me

But so often we forget Him during all the Christmas rush
Spending money that we haven’t got and making such a fuss
Oh yes we sing our carols, go to Church on Christmas Day
But how often do we sit with Him and gently say

Thank You Father God in Heaven
For the Gift that You have given
It came wrapped in straw on a stable floor
But it’s worth more than gold to me
Christmas means the old, old story
When the angels sang of glory
And a baby in a manger
That’s what Christmas means to me

God Bless

Graham
