The Invaluable Benefit of Spiritual Maturity

How would you describe the current state of your spiritual life? Our relationship with God is the most valuable thing we have on planet earth – and it’s important that we invest time and effort in it since the more you get to know someone the richer the relationship will grow. One way that we neglect our relationship with God is through the broadening of our understanding of Theology: “The study of God and of God’s relation to the world.” The more we learn about God and the deeper our knowledge about Him grows, the better we will be able to face this life on planet earth before moving into eternity with Him.

Keeping Jesus Central

The most iconic Christian Christmas image is without a doubt the nativity or manger scene. There’s the barn and a star, and then there’s always the same set of characters – the angels, and Mary, and Joseph, and the Wise Men, and the shepherds, and baby Jesus is always at the centre of the manger scene; and that’s simply because that’s exactly where Jesus belongs. All the other characters point to Him. Christmas is all about Jesus. He is the reason for the season.

From This Seed a Tree Shall Surely Grow

There are instances in everyone’s life when they feel small and insignificant, invisible to God and unable to make much of a difference. And yet Scripture says that we are made with purpose and a plan. Out of a teeny, tiny seed a tree will surely come. If we truly want God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done in our lives as it is in heaven; if we want breakthrough of that heavenly Kingdom, here in our midst, and for it to grow and have the impact God intends, we need to die to self.

Love

Love is essential. We should desire the gifts of the Spirit and we should totally surrender our lives and give our all but without love they are meaningless. We need to love… but what is love?
The reality is that the definition of love is very broad because it means different things in different situations. But in 1 Corinthians 13 Paul lays down some key tests for us to see if we are acting/living in love. Sometimes love doesn’t look the way we’d expect but it is always patient and kind. It is humble, generous, peaceable and forgiving. It is just, enduring, encouraging, hopeful and strong.

Only by Grace Can We Stand

Suppose you were to die tonight and stand before God, and He asked you why He should allow you into heaven? What would you say? If you’ve been deceived into thinking that you can trust in your own righteousness to secure your eternity, or you’ve got a mixture of grace aided your own contribution thing going on, turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and let your hope of an eternity spent with Him, rest in Him, and Him alone. We are saved by grace; the work is God’s, not ours.
