The phrase ‘do not be afraid’ is used five times in the first Christmas narrative, as Scripture illustrates five legitimate reasons that we as human beings still struggle with fear to this day. Let’s consider two of the fears mentioned, and how we can deal with them in order that they don’t hold us back, nor prevent us from experiencing the fullness of the life that Jesus said He came to give us.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
Both Mary and Elizabeth speak about God’s favour. In them we can see a model of how we should conduct ourselves to also receive His favour. It means walking in humility, faithfulness and obedience. It doesn’t matter who you are, how much you have, what you’ve achieved or not achieved. High or low if we humble ourselves before the Lord He will lift us up.
Sermon by Graham Mol.
What matters most when things in our world appear to be falling apart is that we cling to the promise and do not lose sight of the truth that we serve a God who stays with us no matter what is happening around us.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
In ancient times, God’s people awaited the coming Messiah. They looked forward in hope to when He would come, wondering when that day would be. And now we await His return, but we do so living in the light of His presence in our lives.

Sermon by Carol Ravenscroft.
Humility is without a doubt one of the pillars of Christian character, which is why one of the strongest messages in all of Scripture is the truth that God resists the proud, some translations go so far as to say He opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
In a world that champions pride, are you any different?
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
“Give us today our daily bread.” This is a line from the prayer that Jesus teaches His disciples. What does it mean? Simply, it is asking God to provide for our needs for the day. Yet, the concept is deeper than that.
Sermon by Graham Mol.
The tongue can be used as a weapon or a tool. A weapon to harm and destroy or as a tool to build and heal. Have you ever heard the phrase ‘Eat your words’? The day will come when we will be held accountable for every utterance. And the words that we speak will either nourish our cause (fruit) or lead to our demise (poison).
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
This is the hope that we have. When we look at the world and its trials. When we see the wickedness – the influence of evil upon peoples lives. When we understand that there is a spiritual war going on. We can know that Jesus commands the armies of the Lord. He will return in power and victory. And we can know today – right where we are that no matter what we face: “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Sermon by Graham Mol
Instead of promising to eliminate trouble from our lives, Jesus promises to give us peace and comfort in the midst of trouble. And what better account in Scripture to teach us this fact than Peter’s water walking expedition in the Gospel of Matthew 14.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
Join us in celebrating God’s faithfulness over the last 22 years as we come together for a morning of praise and worship.
To live Coram Deo is to live one’s entire life in the presence of God, under the authority of God, to the glory of God.

Sermon by Jeff Willems from The Vine Church.
The only answer to our soul weariness is the rest that Jesus provides. It is into this time of weariness that His invitation comes. Just as he offered it then, He offers it now.
Sermon by Graham Mol
Agape is a perfect love from God. Agape love is unconcerned with the self and concerned with the greatest good of another. Agape love isn’t born out of emotions, feelings, familiarity, or attraction, but from the will and as a choice. Agape requires sacrifice without expecting anything in return. This is the type of love the Bible speaks about the most. When the word agape is used in the Bible, it refers to a pure, wilful, sacrificial love that intentionally desires another’s highest good.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
Considering what faithfulness means, I’m sure you’d agree that we humans are not that by nature. We tend to be fickle and self-serving, changing and shifting with what suits us. God calls us out to not be like the shapeshifting world around us but to be a faithful people. Faithful towards Him and towards others. It’s not easy but that is why we have been given the Holy Spirit so that by God’s strength and power at work in us we too can become more like Christ. We can become more and more faithful.
Sermon by Graham Mol.
Self-control is not a gift we receive passively, but actively. We are not the source, but we are intimately involved. We need to yield ourselves to the power of God within, and work with the Holy Spirit on this matter. It’s not just going to happen on its own.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
Guest preacher Greg Phillips speaks affirms the Biblical truth of our complete forgiveness and freedom from sin, through Christ Jesus.
We all struggle with anger, and if we don’t know how to deal with it, then you might as well put a d in front of it, because if you don’t deal with it, and instead you stuff it, disguise it, medicate it, numb it, or ignore it, chances are pretty good you’re only going to add fuel to the fire, making an inevitable explosion all the more likely. And that’s dangerous, especially when it comes to what God values most: people and relationships.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
When you read through the Bible you find many references to joy and its verb, rejoice! You will find joy in relation to two categories, either one or the other or a mixture of both. We can call these two categories Battle and Blessing. The Christian life is both blessing and battle. We experience good things and we experience troubles and trials. In both situations we can have joy.
Sermon by Graham Mol.
Peace is not some elusive concept that can only be earned by carrying the bigger stick; it’s not complete pacifism in conflict; it has nothing to do with sitting in a meditative pose as the world crashes and burns around you. Peace is having complete trust in Who God is. Think about it like this: Presence = Peace.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
Goodness comes about through the transformation of our hearts through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Only God – who is good – can make us good. A spirit-filled and spirit-led life is one that is characterised by goodness (godliness).
Sermon by Graham Mol.
Gentleness is strength under control, and this control comes from the Holy Spirit. When you allow the Spirit to have this type of power over you, you are going to begin bearing the fruit of gentleness.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
Exile was the just punishment for the sin of the Israelites. It was a consequence of their disobedience and turning away from God. And yet, God goes into exile with His people for He has not abandoned them but seeks to redeem them. This is a beautiful picture of God’s love for His people.
Sermon by Graham Mol
Kindness is love in action. People can opt for a different worldview – a different narrative through which to make sense of the world. People can choose not to believe in the authority of Scripture, but people cannot discredit the evidence of God’s abiding presence in us, displayed through kindness in an unkind world.
Sermon by Calven Celliers
Every good and perfect gift is from above, it is from God. If we take the time to notice and take it in we will see that life is full of good gifts. I would go so far to say that Life is a Gift. It is a gift from God.
Sermon by Graham Mol
All human beings are created in the image of God, we are His creation, but only those who trust in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour become part of the family of God, restored in relationship to their Father in Heaven.
As a believer your identity in Christ is Child of God. That is what you are first and foremost. This truth affects how you live.
Sermon by Graham Mol.
We live in a world that says, in many ways, “If you just make a good impression, that’s all that matters.” But you will never be a man or woman after God’s own heart if that’s your philosophy. Never. You can’t fake it with the Almighty. He is not impressed with externals. He always focuses on inward qualities, like character and purity of heart . . . those things that only His abiding Spirit within us can produce over time, as He transforms us into the likeness of Christ.
Sermon by Calven Celliers.
It is amazing and incredibly faith building to see God move in power by His Holy Spirit. But more important, more long lasting and enduring is His daily presence. His daily comfort and help, His daily strengthening of our faith and love. His daily drawing us near to God, drawing our focus onto His presence within us.
Sermon by Graham Mol.
There are many ways that the Holy Spirit works in our lives as Christians, but they all share one common goal: to make us more like Jesus. This is a process known as sanctification, and while this might be a very theologically sounding word, it’s not really all that complicated. From the very beginning, God’s plan has been to make you and I like His Son Jesus, and it’s the Holy Spirits role in the life of every believer to produce Christlike character in us.

Sermon by Calven Celliers.
Jesus commissioned His disciples to go and be His witnesses to the world. He calls us to go and be witnesses too, sharing what we have learnt, what we have experienced and sharing our love. The love He has poured into our hearts for a broken and hurting world around us.
Sermon by Graham Mol
When we come to the end of what we can do, that is when we are ready to see what God can do. Jesus has the most amazing ability to make something out of nothing. When everything you have tried in life turns out to be nothing, He can make something out of it.

Sermon by Calven Celliers
Today we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection. He is alive! What does this mean for us? It means that we have a living hope as we both believe in Jesus and love Him. We are saved into a relationship with Christ. This is the joy of our salvation.

You may have attended dozens of Good Friday and Easter services. If someone asked you about what the Easter story means you could tell them. But what if someone asked you what the Easter Story, the Gospel, means to you personally? Where do you stand when it comes to believing in and following Jesus?

Contentment works from the inside out. For us as Christians, contentment means that if we have Jesus we have enough, because we have all that really matters. Have you ever considered that what we have in Christ is far greater than anything we don’t have in life?
Sermon by Calven Celliers
Sometimes, just like God thinned out Gideon’s army, decreasing the resources and strength he had on hand, God may decrease our resources or capabilities to tackle a challenge so that our dependence is not on ourselves or under our control. Rather we are brought to a place of humility where we acknowledge that He is in control.
Sermon by Graham Mol
We might not all be gifted, called, and anointed evangelists, but we are all saved sinners, who have a story to tell, and a message to share about how Jesus is working in and through our lives. The world is hungry for God, and we cannot keep the bread to ourselves.
Sermon by Calven Celliers
Gideon’s story is one about a young man starting on his journey to become a mighty warrior, a leader of his people. But more than that it is a story of God’s mercy towards a wayward people. His care for those who could care less about Him. It is about His patience and kindness to a young man full of doubt, His empowering love and presence in his life through the anointing of His Holy Spirit.
Sermon by Graham Mol
Whilst our mortal minds will never fully comprehend the magnitude of the love of God for us, it is nonetheless essential to healthy Christian living, because God’s love is fundamental to our identity as His children.
Sermon by Calven Celliers
Our inner speech can reveal much about our private desires, distractions and disappointments. Just like our words to others affect them and how they feel about themselves, how you talk to yourself – shapes your relationship with yourself, how you feel about you.
Sermon by Graham Mol
Love was what motivated Jesus to wash His disciples’ feet and He is telling us today that when we humble ourselves and serve, it should be out of love, not out of a sense of duty or responsibility.
Sermon by Calven Celliers
After Christmas we don’t often get through some of the other events closely linked to Jesus’ birth. One such account is when Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to dedicate Him. There is much we can learn from the two people they meet there: Simeon and Anna.
